Husband – 20th Century in Cartoons – 1950s

So, I am reading – a decade a day – the late great Tony Husband’s book The 20th Century in Cartoons” (to be clear, he selected them, he didn’t draw them.)  See also The Onion’s Our Dumb Century.  

This decade, in my mind is one of…enforced conformity (destruction of civil society) and the threat of The Bomb. Also, lotsa flag decolonisation.

Invention of the breathalyser in the 1950s. 

A breathalyzer or breathalyser (a portmanteau of breath and analyzer/analyser), also called an alcohol meter, is a device for measuring breath alcohol content (BrAC). It is commonly utilized by law enforcement officers whenever they initiate traffic stops. The name is a genericized trademark of the Breathalyzer brand name of instruments developed by inventor Robert Frank Borkenstein in the 1950s.^[1][2]
