So, I am reading – a decade a day – the late great Tony Husband’s book The 20th Century in Cartoons” (to be clear, he selected them, he didn’t draw them.) See also The Onion’s Our Dumb Century.
This decade, in my mind is one of… not much, tbh. Edwardian age. Australian Federation. Plutocrats. Er, that’s it.
What I didn’t know:

Sherlock Holmes and Boer War atrocity/revenge?
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s connection to the Boer War and Sherlock Holmes is both historical and canonical. In real life, Doyle volunteered as a physician in South Africa and authored the nonfiction book The Great Boer War (1900). Canonically, Holmes solves the mystery of a traumatized Boer War veteran in the short story “The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier”
EAOY – 1909 Wilbur Wright and a flight around the Statue of Liberty
Harper’s Weekly cover on October 9, 1909, covering Wilbur Wright’s flight around the Statue of Liberty for New York’s Hudson-Fulton Celebration on September 29.
The event honored the 100th anniversary of Robert Fulton’s first successful commercial paddle steamer and the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s discovery of the Hudson River.
