Ovid’s Metamorphoses #021/111: “Tiresias”

What this project is about.

This one is from Book 3.

How long it took to read this (aloud): 1 mins 52s

What it’s “about”

So Jove and Juno were fooling ‘round

When he complained “I do all the pound.

I bet you dames enjoy the fuck

More than men” “Boy don’t press your luck”

replied the horny wife. Let’s ask Tiresias

(He’d had and been a piece of ass;

He’d found two snakes who were on the job

And between the two a stick did lob

And for the crime he’d become a bint

For seven years he served a stint.

And then he’d seen the snakes again

And begged reversal [a dick to gain]

So Tiresias knew of what he spoke)

He told the truth – and Juno choked

She tore his eyes out one by one

A tragic end to a non-binary one

Now Jove, by law,  could not this deed undo

A consolation prize he did brew

The gift of foresight was given him

That’s no good, in fact it’s grim!

Words I didn’t know: none

Quotable quotes:

“One day while walking through a green-grown wood

He thrust his stick between two monstrously l

Large and Love-joined serpents”

How it lands to my eco-sensibility: No wonder the snakes were pissed

Obvious allusions, ways it was used (that I am aware of already) : xx

What I know I didn’t ‘get’: xx

To my knowledge, who’s used it why/how (RACC): xx

Further research questions: xx

Anything else: xx

Juno really needs a good therapist!
