It’s done! 27 short stories in 27 days

There’s a sexist joke about a Hollywood starlet being interviewed on a late night talk show about her new book.

Host: So, tell us about your book – it’s your first, right?

Starlet: Right! Well, when I started it people were really cruel and said I’d never finish it, that I was just some dumb blonde with big tits. But you know, I was determined. I sat there for hours and hours, every night, no matter what. It was so hard!

Host: And you finished it last week?

Starlet: I did. I am so proud of myself.

Host: And what’s it called?

Starlet: It’s called the Great Gatsby

Host: But…

(the pay off being that the starlet has read a book, not written one).

Anyhoos, for my next trick, I should write 27 short stories in 27 days. But for now, I finished a Reader’s Digest collection of “Great British Short Stories” .

What did I learn – various words, various bits of “culture” (Dore Bibles, anyone). That your knowledge is the surface of a sphere and your ignorance its volume (I already knew this).

Technically, I learnt slightly better use of gdrive/templates etc – but also that there is an irreducible amount of time and that – as per the last story – there are opportunity costs in paths taken/not taken.

For a while I am going to try to keep this up – next up Kipling’s Just So Stories (I will do two per day, and just enter everything into a single page) and then an Isaac Asimov collection.
