“Jumping the Gun” or “Kristallnacht 2.0 is postponed (not cancelled)”

There’s a Meatloaf song that applies to the frothing anticipation of a pogrom postponed in the US in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk shooting.

That song is “Jumping the Gun,” rom the album Bad Attitude. It’s not very good, but I loved it when I was 16 or 17.

For 32 hours – between Kirk copping it in the neck and Tyler Robinson handing himself in, a whole bunch of politicians and “influencers” were baying for “radical leftist” blood (I won’t bother to quote, but screenshots were taken). Once it emerged that Robinson was Groyper-aligned, there was a rabid – sorry, rapid – deleting of those tweets and posts. As per this,

(Kristallnacht, for those not in the know, was a November 1938 state-and-civil-society assault on the few remaining Jewish businesses and organisations in Nazi Germany, under the pretext of ‘revenge’ for a German official getting murdered in Paris by a young exiled Polish Jew.)

In compensation for the lack of a pogrom (and to distract from their call for it?), the “right” has pivoted to getting teachers, media types etc fired for posting their thoughts about Kirk’s death. Free speech indeed.

But that “energy”, that orgasmic desire for mayhem and murder couldn’t be left at an impossibly high pitch – there had to be some outlet. Think of it as precum at the point of “edging,” (nsfw hyperlink).

What next?

It seems that if they are going to get their pretext they may need to supply it themselves next time, with a proper “false flag” operation (and in the 32 hours, there were plenty of conspiracy theories about CIA and Mossad flying around. Of course.

There is already blood in the streets. There will be more, and returning as tedious as go o’er.

Random observations

• the mass media is only “useless” in helping you understand this (e.g. the actual meaning of the stuff on the bullets) if you persist in believing that the mass media is there to inform and sense-make for the masses. This is what we are told, endlessly and if we are not careful, we believe it. Once you are able to accept, permanently (i.e. without intermittent backsliding) that it is there to make money for its owners and maintain “hegemony” for The System (“man“), then you stop thinking of it as useless and see it as quite useful… for those who own the show.

• the information bubbles are real. I saw (but didn’t bookmark) a piece where someone said he or she had talked to a right-wing Christian friend who had never seen (or perhaps noticed?) Kirk’s racism and hate, but had only seen the “motivational speaker” clips. The anecdote had a happy ending (it’s all relative) because he was able to show her videos and she had the cognitive and emotional capacity to accept that she hadn’t had the full picture. Hermeneutics blah blah.
