You don’t get to be Chief Scientific Advisor to HMG (His Majesty’s Government) if you are a complete dolt. You may be a bit obedient, and/or a bit blinkered (aren’t we all?) but you aren’t actually actively thick.
Part of not being thick, you’d hope, is looking at your worldview, and the (in)actions of people who share it, and the results over the last, oh, 35 years, and being able to say “hmm, it’s not working out so well. Maybe something’s missing.”
You’d hope: if you believed in hope, that is.
And so no surprise that former HMG Chief Scientific Advisor David King, who as long ago as January 2004 was saying that climate change was a much bigger threat than terrorism, should come out with another of the loooooong list of liberal laments lauding last-ditch leveraging of liberalism’s lobotomised and ludicrous lollygagging. Lol.
And of course, it is utterly silent on the need for something that has not been tried – sustained (non-coopted, non-repressed) social movement action that isn’t just “mobilisations” and emotacycle. But Prof King, like all of us I guess, lacks the imagination to even consider it.
Carbon dioxide “removal” and geo-engineering, here we come. Of course….
