I am not buying or borrowing any more books until I read and review the 13 that I bought (for a grand total of £17.50) in London on Friday 10th October 2025. You can see the list and the rationale here.
Title: Science for All
Author: Anon
Year of publication: 1958
Publisher and location: The National Book League at the University Press, Cambridge
Total number of pages: 177
Why I bought it: I am writing a book (the world needs more, sure) and there were three pages that were crucial-ish. In theory I could have taken photos of those three pages, but come on, how rude is that.
Contents: Annotated bibliographies across range of sciences (history, chemistry, astronautics, geology, zoology etc
Fiction or non-fiction: non-fiction
What I expected: some useful leads for the book
What I got: (review, context etc): some useful leads for the book
There was at least one more “Science for All” in 1963/4 or so, which I will try to track down.
From intro (pxvii) “The purpose of this bibliography is to provide a list of books which will help the non-specialist to understand physical aspects of the world in which he lives, and specialists in particular fields to learn something about the activities of their fellow workers.”
The National Book League “is a public society supported entirely by the subscriptions of its members. Its aim is to stimulate the full use and enjoyment of books. It is strictly non-commercial and makes no profit.”
