“The Poor Relation’s Story” by Charles Dickens

Number 18 of 27 Great British Short Stories

Premise: A shaggy dog from an unreliable narrator

Review: I did not “get” this at all, and may simply need to re-read. Or perhaps the whole thing about father figures is too close to the bone? Who knows.

Outa ten: 7 – didn’t get it at all. My fault, not his? Mawkish?

Keywords: Christmas, unreliable narrators

Quotes:

“Having by some means failed to find a place in this great assembly, I am better out of it.”” p.233

Words:  nil

Look up: Oxford Mixture  – a type of grey or mottled fabric, created by blending black-dyed wool with white wool, often used for boys’ clothing in the Victorian era, though the term is now considered obsolete. It can also describe a fabric’s mottled or “mixed” appearance, where distinct flecks of color are visible.
