“The systems all flicker” – a limerick

It’s not climate or covid, or “both”

But a blast past the limits to growth

The systems all flicker

The “leaders” just bicker

And repeat their grow-tesque kind of oath.

On flickering – see this from Monbiot, October 2023.

  1. George makes a reference to a tropical cloud model that has been regionalized and pushed to 1500 ppm CO2. SST are modeled to rise to over 94º F at that level of CO2. I am struggling to find any justification for these levels of CO2, nor why a 32º F rise in tropical SST is a modeling out put that doesn’t merit a footnote concerning the models constraining assumptions. George should know better than to flicker the physics as he has done to promote “something ridiculous because it was conveient or comforting to do so”. What say you?

    1. Hi Greg,
thanks for the murmurations thing btw.

I say George (for whom I hold no particular brie) is human like the rest of us, and capable of motivated reasoning/cherry picking etc.

I’m not sure it does any damage to the notion of “flickering” in systems near the edge of chaos, or the limerick, though.
