A Swift post about child poverty in 2024

This from the Guardian in October 2024.

Children are being “plunged into poverty”, a charity says, because of a lack of support for kinship carers – relatives or family friends who step in to look after children after a crisis.

Kinship carers, who are often grandparents, are twice as likely as other adults to rely on food banks and four times as likely to fall behind on their bills, according to a new report.

Kinship, the charity that supports such carers, also found that the lack of financial, practical and emotional support available meant that one in eight carers felt they might have to give up their caring responsibilities in the next year.

Yalways bring me problems, whydonchabringme solutions?

This from Jonathan Swift in (checks notes)… 1729.

Perhaps, in five years time , for the three hundred year anniversary, if Western “civilisation” is still around, we could do one of those deluxe repro editions, and launch it at a really expensive charity event with Hampstead luvvies doing that whole “intoning and emoting” shtick, with the groundlings doing their eye-rolling and hate-splats online?

If there’s any profit after agents’ fees, it could go to the nearest foodbank? What do people think? Have my people call your people?
