Happy D/days, “currently abled” and Time’s Winged Chariot… (notes)

Anyhoos, before antibiotics and public health measures, an infected wound or an epidemic of [insert disease here] could remind you very very starkly of the Impermanence Of All Things. These days, we think we are gonna make it to 85 (spoiler, if you’re less than 70, don’t bet on it).

And the problem for some of the young (not those with imaginations, compassion or siblings/friends with physical disabilities) is that we think we’re invulnerable. But as someone just put in a tweet –

Being “able bodied” is temporary, you will age, you will get injured, you will get sick and you will wish you fought more for the system to protect the vulnerable.

There was an episode of Happy Days where the Fonz (the great Henry Winkler) had to be taught this. (Warning, hugging and learning ahead. Anviliciously so.)
